Urinary Tract Infection Treatment
  • UTI Home Remedy: 4 Effective Options

UTI Home RemedyUsing a UTI home remedy has become popular as an alternative treatment nowadays.  UTI is a common infection of the kidneys, bladder and urethra that afflicts many people.   When treated early, therapy becomes successful and prognosis is good.  The medication, though, can sometimes be expensive and patients tend to discontinue because of financial constraints.   Hence, a home remedy for UTI can provide relief or even eventual cure in the early stages of the condition. Here are some of the natural options:

    Water Therapy

This urinary tract infection home remedy is the best because it is the most convenient and the most natural. The human body is composed of 60 to 70 percent of water.  Drinking more than eight glasses of water a day will cleanse your urinary tract of bacteria that may have amassed in the distal, calyxes or convoluted tubes of the kidneys.  Through hydration, you will also constantly urinate, which facilitates the removal of harmful, excretory foreign substances in the kidneys.

    Vitamin C

Just like too much acidity, too much alkaline will also encourage the growth of bacteria. When the urine is too alkaline, taking in vitamin C can make it less alkaline. Also, what makes vitamin C a good UTI remedy, is that it strengthens the immune system and helps the body resist bacterial growth.

    Pipsissewa, Buchu and Echinacea tinctures

You can mix equal parts of these herbs and treat these as a useful home remedy for urinary tract infection. Every two hours, drink two drops of this mixture every two days. After that, you can drink 1 tsp of this mixture in the succeeding days.

    Urva Ursi

Another urinary tract infection remedy is the use of Urva Ursi. Urva Ursi is an herb that contains huge amounts of compounds that could help in bladder infection treatment. However, people with liver complications as well as nursing mothers should not take this strong antiseptic herb.

Usually, this herbal remedy for UTI is used only by people who are experiencing acute symptoms of urinary tract infection. This could be mixed with other substances such as Echinacea, pepwessi and buchu. It would also be advisable to drink a soothing marshmallow root tea if you find this antiseptic too strong for you.

So next time you have a urinary tract infection, remember that an effective UTI home remedy will help a lot in the treatment and prevention of the condition.

    Is That All?

Well, there are in fact dozens of so-called home remedies for a UTI, but many of them really do not work. The good news is that I did find a list of remedies that are completely natural and really effective. I came across them after reading Mary Jo Barton’s UTI Report, which is now one of my favorite resources for curing and preventing any sort of urinary tract infection.

Take cranberry tablets. Easier, less expensive, faster, more effective to do than drinking gallons of cranberry juice. Just drink lots of water with it.

Does anyone have suggestions for home remedies beyond cranberry, d-mannose, echinachea and the above? My doctor gave me cipro as well. I don’t want to keep going back and taking different antibiotics. Nothing has fixed it yet. Lemon has eased pain, but no cure yet.

    Hi Debbie,

I know how frustrating and painful a UTI can be, especially when certain home remedies don’t work for you. The only other thing I would suggest is trying the remedies outlined in the UTI Report. If that still doesn’t work, then visit your doctor or pharmacist for a stronger treatment.

    All the best
